Wrekin College is serious about education and serious about business.
Wrekin College is a flourishing independent co-educational day and boarding school in Shropshire for pupils aged 11-18. Their focus is on producing well-educated and rounded individuals with a wealth of skills to enable them to confidently enter the world of further education and employment.
Wrekin’s Business School is critical to its educational offering, where there is a coordinated approach to making their pupils employable in the current marketplace and developing them into leaders of the future. Having caught the eye of the national newspapers, Wrekin teaches its pupils about commerce, about how wealth is created and how successful organisations function. It provides a dynamic mix of enterprise and education offering pupils a stepping-stone from the world of education to the world of work. It is a modern building closer to that of the corporate world than a school giving pupils exceptional opportunities for learning about employment in an office-style setting.
The facilities at Wrekin College made it a simple decision to hold Shropshire Business Festival on the stunning site. Expect lecture in the wonderful Business school, exhibitors in the sports hall, interactive sessions in the computer suites and marketing sessions around the board room.
In the last three years, pupils at Wrekin have run two businesses that are ‘start-ups’: a ‘Retro Shack’ selling retro clothing and music on the Wellington High Street and ‘Express-O’, a mobile coffee outlet selling good quality coffee.
Their co-curricular CAT (Character Adventure Training) is compulsory for all pupils and is about working in and running teams of people. The Business School’s primary focus is employability and its aims are multifaceted: make pupils more ready to be employed than if they attended another school; teaching pupils about commerce, about how money is made and how it works, about how wealth is created and how successful organisations function.
At Wrekin they want to ensure that pupils leave not only with exam results but the wherewithal and knowledge to be employees and employers of the future. The Business School is dedicated to ensuring the employability of our pupils and the education of the visitors to Shropshire Business Festival
